    User Accounts

When creating a user account, how do u share programmes? I shared some folders on my user accounts but I have a challenge accessing the internet using PC Suite from a limited user account and some programmes that I'd like to share in order to avoid login in as an administrator are not there.

How do I share programmes between users?

Right click the folder, properties, go to sharing and look at the options.

Making an administrator account just means you have access to everything, it isn't the same as logging on as Administrator.
(Your account should certainly be an administrator, if it is limited change it! Limited accounts are for children etc.)

Well I was hoping to be able to log on as another user with a limited account and still have access to burning, internet and stuff.

Seemingly I can share folders but not programmes which does not help me since I wanted to log on as another user.

I heared when u log on as an administrator your system is much more exposed to infections than when you are a limited user

May I ask where you heard that?

You may have to install the program on each user account. Some programs are per user basis.

You would never be able to do any advanced computing under a limited account, so I don't understand that one to be honest.

You should be able to do everything except install programs, and more advanced things on the limited account.

If you are unable to access the internet, it's just a matter of setting it all up for the limited account.

There is a thread at the bottom of this page for burning under a limited account, it might fit you well.

MIcrosoft officially(msmvp's) reccomend you surf with a limited account, that's what they designed it for, all those active x nasties can't make changes.

We use it all the time to protect computers that are shared with several users.

To get some older programs to work I even install them and then change the account to limited

Thanks for the info Chewy. (I wasn't sure if this was fact or Joe Blow told him.)

I understand the security factor and I know it would be safer.

I just can't imagine using a computer under a limited account when there are so many restrictions applied. But I agree they are great for protecting your computer from users that will install every pos they can get there hands on!

if the bozo's had to fix their mistakes I wouldn't use the limited accounts either, unfortunately they don't know how, royal pain to set up a computer that's user proof but still functional

                    That was my main problem.

I wonder if the Vista geniuses made any changes that will benefit this type of account.
