This is the memory requirements for your Hp Pavilion s7310N. This is from HP web site. And to answer you question yes. But I would buy 2 and then you would have 1Gig of system memory. I have 1Gig of memory in my laptop and the performace is much better than when I only had 512Meg of memoy.

Since you will have to pull the 2 256 megs sticks and be spending over 100$ for 2 sticks of the new ram, I would just optimize the computer and not
waste more money on an entry level machine, that cpu and bus speed are too lame to benefit much from the extra ram
