computer shuts off midway thru conversion...HELP???

recently I reinstalled my copy of XP professional and now my computer shuts down all of a sudden while converting video files, I've tried several different converters and file types and its the same with every one of them, it starts converting...everything is fine and then when it gets around 50% or so...BLINK!!, power shuts off and all is lost. Before the reinstall I had no problems at all. Can anyone help me? It's driving me insane!!!

Have you checked the setting in your "POWER OPTIONS"?

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options.

Is it overheating? Check your heat sinks and fans for dust-bunnies...Encoding will really make a processor's heat rise...

I want you to download Everest 2.20 from my signature below and run it

I want you to encode something (anything) for 15 minutes. I want you to stop and get another report on your CPU temperature immediately with Everest 2.20

It sounds like your processor is overheating. Make sure your computer box is not in an enclosed space and the fans are not clogged and ARE working.
