    DOS and Firmware???

Hi All, I'm trying to update the firmware on my old Toshiba DVD player (Toshiba SD-M1202 // Firmware 1020) in my older computer to Firmware 1028. Below is the read-me file for directions on using the firmware, but I'm having no luck. In DOS mode, I get the message "VUPPXXXC1028.HEX is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I think my issue is procedure #3, it says copy the files to "some directory". Where would be the best place to copy these files to make the firmware work. Any help would be grateful.

    [Procedure]
1- Make sure that TOSHIBA CD/DVD-ROM drive is connected.
2- Run PC by MS-DOS mode.
3- Copy "VUPXX.EXE" & "******.HEX" to some directory in HDD.
4- Type "VUPXX ******.HEX" then hit RETURN-KEY.
5- Program finishes with the message of "Comparison : GOOD"

    Thanks.

I always made a dos boot disk

then put the files on another floppy if they wouldn't fit on the boot disk

at the a prompt type in VUPXX.EXE

then you have to type in the hex file

I'm sorry Chewy but I don't follow you, are you saying I have to put the files on a Dos Boot disk?? I don't even know what that is. Or do I just type in VUPXX.EXE at the prompt and then the hex file??
          Thanks.

as old as that firmware is I would think they were talking real dos
            not xp's command prompt

you do have a floppy drive?

stick a premium disk in it, my computer/right click/format/make startup disk

after it finishes see if there's enough room for flash(pretty sure there s)
set bios(if necessary) to boot to floppy drive

I don't want to waste too much of our time on an old obsolete door stop but everyone should have to do this kind of thing once for the experience

I keep a couple of floppy drives in a box with cables for use every year or so
