Chewy - I received the Thermaltake "heatpipe" CPU cooler today. I am kinda wondering about all that weight hanging off the side of the CPU socket;
I mean, this thing weighs 1 1/2 lb., or very close to it - seems like a lot of weight to be pulling on that little soldered-in socket; what has been your experience with these?
The brackets on the 2 sides of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106068 hook onto a metal plate on the mobo around the processor socket and hold it on. Don't look like any real weight hanging on the chip. At least on the A8N5X mobo I got and other mobos probably too.
Jm..chewy..katz (rat I know u r watching and soup!)

What is your budget like for the vid. card? Do you need capture capabilities/TV tuner/gaming, etc.?
Need a bit more info. on what you are looking for before we could recommend one. Your best bet would be to narrow your search terms on (newegg) for the features/price range you are looking for.
As for the sound card, you can save $$$ on that & use the onboard for now - if you aren't satisfied with it, that is an easy upgrade later.
I am watching your build progress, but while I was a Tactical computer repair in the Army (long ago & far away) I have not followed the PC tech. in a long time.
Therefore, I am also learning the newest & latest from your thread. You have a team of experts guiding you along the golden path to building a computer.
I am not sure when, but I will expect your assistance in building a computer one of these days.
So, having said that, get that BAD Boy assembled and see if it jumps through the hoops the way it sounds like it should.
And do not feel you can bet you have a lot of people following your thread, learning, & thinking about building a new computer of their own.
Your friend RB.
Important: Remember, if something is worth doing, its worth doing wrong until you learn to do it Right!
thank you Rat...
I know you and soup are like twin brothers of different mothers..
So thanks to you both!!!!!!!!!

But I feel like I just want to be finished with this BS. and get on with the gaming and burning!!!
Now I was going to test today but I don't have memory to see if the Mo-Bo and cpu is right on............ phuck! (edit that word if needed)
I went thru Soup's links (ty bro) but it's making my head spin!, NO rebates?? No free shipping?? No great deals on a pci-e vid card??

I'm not a gamer and don't watch my DVDs on the puter so I went on the cheap. At the time I ordered my video card and when I ordered this is what I got.
MSI NX6200LE-TD64E GeForce 6200 LE 256MB(64MB on Board) 128-bit PCI Express x16 Low Profile Video Card
when they tested those turbocache(shares system memory) cards they did a lot better than expected, systems are so much faster now the concept really works

Questions (and thanks) the first is a 128 meg card... I want atleast a 256 so I dun have to worry about up grades for a while...
The second link gave me a world of choices.. umm and I'm all confused again which one...
I know I NEED a pci-e card ) I see things like "THD" (the stuff in pot isn't it? .. kidding).. and then "DVI" .. "HDCP".. umm i dunno what the heck all these things mean!! I've never HEARD of slots with those names... like agp or pci... ide... etc etc...
the only one in my price range is this one... Leadtek GeForce 7300 GS TDH / 256MB GDDR2 / Supporting 512MB with TurboCache / PCI Express / DVI / VGA / HDTV / Video Card
I dunno if it will work with my Mo_Bo, I listed the one I bought...
ohhh
the OTHER question is this.. chewy said don't get ones with SLI because my Mo-Bo (i think) ad my power supply will not handle them...
most have that SLI logo on em...
