all guys having problems with vista...... well im on vista home premium, and let me tell u since im on this os with all updates frm window update [new update has compatibility fixes] its pretty fine no problem at all.

used ultimate a month back with few problems, since then, creative released vista drivers for audigy, logitech suddenly launched drivers for webcam that before showed not compatible with vista please buy our new webcams. [so stupid]. nvidia has new drivers.... but i have changed few hardware... here what i have now....

    Dell Optiplex 280
    Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz HT
    2 GB DDR 2 533 [1 gb before]
    2 sata hardrives
nvidia 7600 GS [ ATI 9600 XT before]
new pixelview tv tuner [with hardware encoder + cyberlink remote] works fine on vISTA mce
hp SCANNER 3670 WITH MINIMUM DRIVERS FRM WINDOWS UPDATE
no drivers yet for photosmart 7760 [alternate drivers works fine though.]

so no errors, no hangups notthin.
time im on vista 20 days, shut computer once since then.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, no cdkey obviously.

ok I got the same OS as you, what about the driver updates on the dell site, are those installed at the factory or is it critical that I download them now. with this new system i feel like I 'm walking on eggshells. I mean, my system crashed because I loaded BF1942 and restarted my comp, then would not come back on until I remembered to take out the printer from the USB, it's madness. what happens when something really big happens, just sets itself ablaze, accompanied of coarse by the black screen of death.

I had a office 2007 3 license and every time I tried to entered the code, I get invalid. I had to open 4 Office suite boxes and the last one finally worked.
I did not want to waste even more time with Microsoft support from India and explain the there is a key-code problem.

OMG this is why I never buy OS software this close to the release, I was happy as can be with my XP, at least it had gotten past it's bugs. I hate the fact that I might not be able to upgrade my Vid card till the bugs are worked out. it could be months!!! Man I love crying about this, haven't had something to b*tch about in ages. Feels good to complain.

Drivers are becoming a major issue, when starting to loading drivers on a Vista machine. If the incorrect driver is loaded and the machine is restarted there is a high probably that this will corrupt. AOL V9 it is not AOL V9VR you will crash the OS and will have to do an OS recovery. And if you did not recreate the sys ten recovery disc, now you will have to order them from the computer manufacturer. The computer manufacturer will charge for the recovery discs usually around $35.00 for the set.

the second I got the system up and running again the first task was to set up the recovery disk and bridge the utility partitions.

no i didnt get anything frm dell, no drivers frm dell for my system.
only drivers i install were frm creative for audigy and logitech for quickcam pro 4000. drivers for printer and scanner and display were frm vista itself [windows update].

Hp is also having problems creating the recovery discs. While burning the recovery discs it bombs out and you have to start all over again . HP does not like Verbatim DVD +R or -R disc but it did finally burn the recovery disc on Fuji -R discs.

so anyone else that gets stuck with the Blue screen of death the answer could be as easy as unplugging your printer from the USB port (or all items except keyboard/mouse) god this OS is touchy
Happens with XP too, spent a long time myself, figuring it out.

everyone hold on to your XP as long as you can and I'm switching to Linux
Transition to Linux is 95% complete here, the last 5% won't go till gaming is as compatible/fast as on XP, which I fear will never happen. In any case my Windows knowledge is fading rapidly!

BTW nice to see you DAFT

anonymez, long time buddy. I'm going to transition into it slowly as well. there is a really cool flic on utube comparing vista to a linux OS i wasn't familiar with but I admit my knowledge is limited. the linux system seemed to have alot of advantages side by side with vista.

I've seen a bunch of them too, most focusing on eye candy, where Compiz/Beryl stomps all over Aero. If it weren't for all the bloat and DRM, Vista might just have been a decent OS (IMO).

TBH my PC has never been as fast as it is now, and my hardware hasn't changed.

well like xp in the beginning, there are a ton of bugs to work out and usually that's why I always wait to transition into new OS until it proves reliable. The down side of buying a DELL right in the middle of their Vista push. I figured at least the 32bit would be more tame. I was wrong and the compatability issues are killing me. My cousin works for Microsoft and she gave me the company line when I asked her about similar problems with the OS. I guess company is thinker than blood.

Vista Sux............................. Bought this new Dell xps 410 just before Xmas, with xpress upgrade (ha) to Vista...spent 2 days talking to tech support just to get it running and for the computer to see a dvd burner was still in it. now I have most of my software working, but I had a older (5.5) ver. of nero that worked great with RI4M and its no t compt. with vista and I would have to pay to upgrade.. now I have to burn files in a second step since DVDD and IMGBURN don't see a burner and lock up if i try to get hem to burn...If I hadn't spent so much time upgrading, I would put XP back on here.
