    Look around in the Preferences/Administration menu, select an entry called Preferred Applications.

      Stuck on this one too, my friend

      I worked at it, searched ubuntu forums, tried what you listed, & Thunderbird refuses to do anything when I click on a link. Changed every setting in Preferred Applications, nothing seems to fix it?

        Hmm (really) long shot, but close all browser windows, run a terminal, type

        Code:
        firefox
        Click Help-->About. Is it i686 or x86_64?

            Long shot didn't pay off.

              Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.0 (20070326)
              Yes, that is one that I came across; I read that link. I changed the >System>preferences>preferred applications, but didn't work, & I don't understand where the code part is supposed to be entered at? Terminal? How?
              edit the ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/[profile_dir]/prefs.js file and add (or change) the following:
              ???

              Dang, I am beginning to think Chewy is right I am fighting this thing every step of the way, it seems...

                edit the ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/[profile_dir]/prefs.js file and add (or change) the following:
                The "~" means your "Home" folder, and just like %windir% in Windows, typing it in nautilus (or explorer) will take you to the appropriate folder. If a folder starts with a full stop, it means it will be hidden. Hit Ctrl+H to temporarily show/hide hidden folders.

                So all you have to do is get to your home folder, hit Ctrl+H, open prefs.js with a text editor, add the line and save.

                Dang, I am beginning to think Chewy is right I am fighting this thing every step of the way, it seems...
                LOL I don't really know where these problems have come from, if I had to take a guess it would be those failed installations with the Firefox installation script. Ubuntu x64 needs a bit of work in some areas, usually better for beginners to go with 32-bit (maybe I should've said that earlier ).

                  Ok - well here we go on a new one; I am writing this from my other pc because Ubuntu won't boot. I get to the username/password screens; and then I get this-

                  Xsession: Unable to start Xsession -- no "/home/username/.xsession" file. no "\home/username/.Xsession" file, no session managers, no window managers, and no terminal emulators found: aborting.
                  There is an "ok" button, I click on it and it goes back to username/password screen.

                  HELP!!!

                    Are you saying that I can install 32 bit ubuntu on my AMD 64 system? If so, I would rather just start over with that & maybe avoid a majority of these problems...

                      Ofcourse, same with XP, most people with 64-bit CPUs run 32-bit Windows.

                      I would rather just start over with that & maybe avoid a majority of these problems...
                      That is recommended (this time 32-bit), now you've grasped the basics. I did it at least 3 times when I started using it, now all PCs in this house mainly run Ubuntu.

                      Xsession: Unable to start Xsession -- no "/home/username/.xsession" file. no "\home/username/.Xsession" file, no session managers, no window managers, and no terminal emulators found: aborting.
                      Don't really know what could have caused this, a search doesn't reveal much either. If you wish to keep this install, try booting into recovery mode and running
                      Code:
                      sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
                      And if in doubt, accept the defaults.

                        I just thought I should let you know that after following this thread all the way so far, I have decided to lay down & let the feeling to install ubuntu go away. I know two people here who have it up & running with no problem so I have respect for them & you anonymez after reading this thread, but as for me, no thanks.

                            @ soup; after following all this, I can see how you would feel that way, but as anony said, it may just be w/ the 64v bit. vers. that is the cause of many of my issues. I will reinstall w/ the 32 bit & see how things go;

                            after all, linux didn't get this far for this many years by being this buggy, I wouldn't think... And also, the fact that Dell is selling pc w/ ubuntu installed, it must be working on those, so I say, stay tuned...
