I have been using Paint.Net as my graphics program. It is free and there are many users that have made quality plug-ins for the program. There are also some awesome tutorials from the members. I am new to graphics but have been able to make some really cool stuff.

LOL katz, but this is serious business! We're talking about fractals! LMAO

                Fractal Explorer
                Fractint
                MBF Lite

And announcing the Apophysis-j for Macs and Linux ...

I have not used Fractint, but FE and MBF are relatively easy to maneuver around in.

                    Ah yes, GIMP.
Great free program if I could just figure half of it out!

I tried to figure out GIMP. Had a great teacher too, and I was still clueless! That's how I found Apophysis. Go figure

I know how to do about a half dozen things with GIMP. I followed some tutorials online which just made things more confusing for me.

photoshop isnt really what you'd call intuative in a sense but once you get used to it it's a league of its own

I am still learning PS. I can't do much, but I get by. Still can't figure out how to put a frame on my fractals ...

Back in the early 90s I had some fun messing with PovRay. A Ray Trace generator thingy. Some people created some cool art with it that you may still be able to find as desktop wallpaper. The software is still out there:
