I just got a cheap core system to play live on, and my modded (banned) one to play backups. That is what most people said they are doing over at xbox-scene.com.

What is it that people do to modify their consoles? I don't want to do it, I'm asking because I'm having problems activating my XBox Live and if I adjust something I don't want to modify it in the illegal way and get banned over something I didn't know I was doing.

It is a firmware mod which involves opening up the 360 and plugging it into a SATA port. The mod allows you to play backup copies of games. M$ has started to detect these mods (somehow) and randomly ban people from the LIVE SERVICE. It is important to note that only the counsel is banned from LIVE, you can still use your LIVE account on another counsel.

if your xbox is banned can you still access other services (live arcade etc...)

If an xbox 360 gets banned can someone still download the demos and xbox live arcade? Or is your system toast and you can only play backup games and thats it?

Pretty much, although you can still play games (both original and backups) on it. You can also still use your Live account on another Xbox 360.

Yes, Admin is right. If you haven't modded your counsel yet, but are interested in doing it, you should wait because an update to counteract Microsoft's new dashboard update is coming out soon.

ok easy solution to not getting banned save your original fw before u mod and flash then if u r worried about getting banned flash back to original(takes 2 min) and if u play back up flash back "they" r supposedly developing a means of flashing through usb so u only have to take it apart once haven't heard anything recent but i first read that about 3 months ago
