    Annoying problem (PD5)

    Hello,
I've just started using Power Director to make my own videos and have a really annoying problem and I'm wondering if anyone else using this software has found a solution?
I am using my own captured footage but with no audio as I am using my own music to dub it in the 'music' stream. now, I'd like to split the video at certain points to go along with the music I'm using (add effects/transitions etc). The problem being that no matter how I try to do it I have to select the music stream to hear ot and get to the point where I want the split to happen, then I have to select the video stream to be able to do the split but when I do the cursor snaps back to start of the clip to be split therefore I lose where I want the split to happen.
If I keep the video clip selected and scroll through it the split button comes on and I can split it but cannot hear the music stream, it really is driving me nuts!!
Is there a way to stop the cursor bar from snapping back? so I can hit pause at the exact moment in the music, select the video stream and just split the thing and add effects etc at that point?
Thanks for any help, you will have saved a very frustrated man from shouting at his computer screen and waking the neigbours.

In the Preview window, select MOVIE(and not CLIP).You should now see the video and hear the music. And the cursor will stay at its place when you hit PAUSE.

      Hi Paglamon,
Thanks for the reply. I am already doing that in the preview window. The problem is the timeline. If I play from the start then the audio (music) channel works fine, I can hear my music and watch my video and see where I want the split happen but the split button is greyed out. I press pause but then have to select the clip in the video channel by clicking on it...this springs the time cursor back to the start of the clip?? If I try and play the video clip from the start (highlighted) then the split function becomes active but the music channel is muted and I cannot hear that channel at all, therefore I am not able to find the part of the music I want the split to happen as I cant hear it....very frustating as the timing of the split needs to be precise and in time with the music, I need to be able to select the videoclip for split to become active but also still have the music channel giving me sound. Hope this makes sense and thanks again for your help.

        Hey,
I think I have solved the problem??
It seems that if you highlight the music channel audio and then drag the timeline around the videoclip for a while it becomes highlighted?? Sometimes it does it right away..sometimes it takes a bit of time. Then you can hear the music and have the split function for the video working....very weird way to go about it, do you think this is a bug in the program?
Anyway, seems problem solved...well I hope so.
        Thanks for your help.
        Take care.

          nope, thats not it,
The split button comes on but it splits the audio in the music channel...pfft. How can I select the master video channel clip so the split function becomes active without the timeline cursor snapping back to the start of the clip?
I'm used to using cubase and it had a snap function that could be easily turned off...does this program have anyhting like that?

              Hi,
              yes it seems you can?
Hmm, maybe it is just a bug in v5? It drives me nuts but I work around it by noting the exact time I want the split and then scrolling to that time (without the music track audible) and then I am able to split it, just seems like a very long winded way of sorting it out. Oh well, thanks for your help anyway
              Take care.

                  Audio

How did you get PD to get the audio that came with the captured footage?
I am trying but all I get is the picture. No sound.
But if i view the file in another prog I get the sound.
                  Could you help?
