Isn't not the slot numbered 1,3,2,4?
There's a support tool in the XP CD that you need to install to clean up programs remnants from registry isn't it?
Insert windows XP disc>Exit on windows splash screen>double click on My Computer>right click on Cd drive and choose explore> Locate tools folder and double click on SETUP.exe. (msizap.exe & msicuu.exe)

put the old ram in and post this part
Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X v2.0 Deluxe (5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 3 DDR DIMM, Dual LAN, IEEE-1394)
                  SPD Memory Modules:
                  DIMM1: GeIL CL2-3-3 Ultra-400 256 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.0-3-3-6 @ 200 MHz)
                  DIMM3: GeIL CL2-3-3 Ultra-400 256 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.0-3-3-6 @ 200 MHz)

and then switch with the new ram and post just the memory again

Yes, my PC is dual channel and the same type of RAM sticks must go into the same colored slots.

Is it possible LT, that maybe you didn't ground yourself well enough on the system cases' metal and maybe accidently came in contact with the motherboard??

Also to post the report from Everest,

under 'memory spd', I gues Chewy is saying to post that report?

In other words the chip density must be the same. If the new memory card is single sided board you must match it to the other memory card. But if you have the other channel is open then you can place the new memory in the other channel that is open. New HP are this way. Acer's desktops you must match the chip densities in both channels otherwise the computer will not boot properly. The video is scrambled. If you are using single sided memory cards then you have to use all single sided cards.

I am not sure if the general rule: Always stick tothe systems recommended type and speed of RAM cards. the lowest speed pair takes precedent over the other pair. Higher value RAM cards shall occupy the first channel.
