    Hi Speed USB 2.0 Port

    Good evening everyone.

Just wondering how do we check our computer to see if the usb port is capable of hi-speed 2.0.

Everytime i've plugged in a portable hard drive, a mp3 player or a flash disk i get the little bubble saying this device would perform better if it was plugged into a hi speed usb 2.0 port.

I have 4 usb ports, with an Asus P4C800-E deluxe mother board.

    thanks

That mainboard is USB 2.0. Check the device manager; What does it look like there? Have you loaded all the drivers for the mainboard? Are you using SP2?

I should have known that...I am finding myself getting "rusty" in windows since I spend all my time in Linux...

          Hi Chewy,

I've checked the bios and it says that it is enabled, and is set at hi-speed.
But still when i plug in my mp3 player or portable HD it says that the transfer would be faster if i was using usb2.0. So i'm still confused as to why it might say that.

            Hi Katz,

If the part under device manager that i'm supposed to be looking at is correct then it says:

            Universal Serial Bus Controllers
            - Intel(R) 82801EB Universal Host Controller 24D2
            - Intel(R) 82801EB Universal Host Controller 24D4
            - Intel(R) 82801EB Universal Host Controller 24D7
            - Intel(R) 82801EB Universal Host Controller 24DE
            - Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller 24DD
            - USB Mass Storage Device
            - USB Root Hub
            - USB Root Hub
            - USB Root Hub
            - USB Root Hub
            - USB Root Hub

All drivers have been loaded and i am using sp2

              1. dirty connection? faulty hardware?
              2. some drivers are bad, make sure the enhanced controller is using the sp2 default driver 5.1.2600.0 6/1/2002

My xp pc has always given me a "false" notification when I connect my mp3 player (Creative Zen V); It tells me that it is not compatible with this version of the software, but it always works just fine.

I ignore it & do the file transfers.
