    Hp Dvd 740b Problem

I have a HP 740b LightScribe Drive. Just recently it just started not to read any type of dvd at all. It will play and read cd's just fine but when you put in a dvd (blank or movie) it doesn't reconize the disk at all. IF you check the drive with a dvd in it it says to please insert a disk. Does anyone have any info on what may be causing this. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like a hardware failure, if the drive has been used much, it may be worn out or dirty.

Alright I'll try cleaning it and see if that helps. I have only had it for about a year and maybe used it 50-80 times max. It will still read and write cds, and will still burn the labels on top of the disk but just won't read or write dvds. Ill let you know if it helps any.

there's a small chance it's a software conflict, but that should mess up cd's also?????????

Well I gave it a good cleaning and still no reading of dvds. Not sure what else to try. I don't have any dvd player programs on my computer. I usually just use windows media player to play dvds on it. I just baffled why it would just stop reading dvds and still perform everything else its supposed to do.
