the problem with the air flow/thermaldynamics of that case is if it starts recirculating
hot air

the intake side fan is too close to the back of the case

sitting unobstructed in a large free space it's fine, but confined would cause problems

I monitor the motherboard temp to find the best solution, keeping it as close to room temp as I can

Thanks guys. So far so good. There are two intakes in the front along with the side one. I plan to change the IDE cable to a round cable in the near future, this should help with the airflow. I'll keep a close eye on the temps, thanks for the heads up.

After that first mobo took a dump I decide to take the pc to a little computer shop. I bought the Asus from them and had them install it. I'm sure they used some type of grease, at least I hope they did. What brand or type I don't know, I guess I can call them and ask. Does it seem to you that it's running hotter then it should?

The video card was giving to me from a friend, who had it on his old pc. He no longer need it so he gave it to me. I'm not a gamer so I don't need anything all that great. This one seems to meet my needs.

Does it seem to you that it's running hotter then it should?

55-60 under full load and with no overclocking, yes that's too hot

but then crossg had similar temps, but he was overclocking a lot

I probably wouldn't bother either, but to protect my investment I would limit dvdrb to 2 cores and save the other 2 for multitasking

Sounds like a good ideal. What I've been doing is when the 4 encoders kick-in, I suspend one or two of them. Is this the correct way?

now that intel has dropped the price of those quad cores so much we may start seeing more of them
