Could it be that your Nero needs updating? Do not touch InCD.

Or that you have a firmware update for that Sony drive?

I'll get the nero updates installed. I'm not sure what that firmware update link is for. It says no firmware update available.

Ok, I see the upgrade to make the liteon drive region free. Will this really help anything? I have other programs that perform this function.

looks like a real mess, any one of 4 or 5 things are going to kill the burn

burner is slaved to the hard drive
                      old firmware
                      burning too fast
                      aspi
                      incd
                      roxio

                        1) The master/slave arrangement I can change, but what doesn't make sense is that this is a recent problem.
                        2) I'm a little nervous about updating that since you can ruin the drive and it has worked well up until now
                        3) How do I change that speed?
                        4,5,6) I don't know what you mean

regarding this problem being recent, several possibilities

your drive is older, things wear out, even power supplies

to test we need to disconnect the other 2 optical drives and put you burner as standalone master on a cable by itself

I know for a fact that newer sony mid's(16x dvd-r for example was not supported in older firmwares) they might still burn poorly and very slow

If you don't want to update the firmware, then there's not much sense in wasting my time, buy a new burner or get some older media

You burner isn't worth 5$ as it is now, technically it's really a liteon 1693 and as such is worth the risk of a crossflash, especially if it hasn't seen too much use.

To crossflash you need to change the drive to master on the secondary ide

Boot into safe mode and execute the flash

as you can see from this page it's a 4th Generation Standard (3S-v2)

the 1693 codeguys firmware will crossflash
                          • KC4B - patched - improved +/-R burn quality (for 1673S, 1693S, Sony 800A, etc.)

                          4,5,6 will save for later

Here's my update. I purchased a new burner, I thought I would upgrade to something faster, so I got one with sata and a sata controller. I can read with the new drive, but as soon as I hit "burn" on shrink, everything locks up. I installed the driver and everthing seems to be reading perfectly. I tried reinstalling shrink. Any ideas?

                              Hi folks,

@ privatejoker ... do the following and report back ...

                              1) Download and install "ImgBurn" program for burning your squished .ISO files. Only make the .ISO and then use ImgBurn for Burning.

                              2) Do not burn any faster than 8X speed. Best rule of thumb burn at the half of the rated speed of DVD ... BUT NEVER faster than 8X. Difference in time is just few minutes.

                              3) Use Good Brand DVD Blanks.

                              Post back your result ...

                              G!
