    Intel E6850 or Q6600

These two parts are about the same price now (the E6850 is about $10 dearer here). Which one is the best choice for say gaming and video encoding?

neither, the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 is a third cheaper, when combined with a premium heatsink/fan will overclock just as high as a 6850

the quads overheat too much when doing video encoding and using all 4 cores

gaming dual core wins hands down as not many games have enough threads

Thanks for the advice ... the E6750 does seem very attractive, $110 less than the 6850 at present.

If you compared the AMD Athlon-64 X2 AM2 6000+ DualCore with the 6850 - which one is the best to pick? (for encoding purpose).

it pains me to say this, all the encoding benches have the intel's winning by a significant margin

even with amd's onboard memory controller, intel has put so much L2 into the cores that they are overcoming their longer pipeline

where amd pulls ahead is with entry to mid level dual cores which are the best bang for the buck

of course since the 6850 is 80% more than the amdx2 6000 and maybe 20-30% faster then it's not really as good a deal
