HD Backup

I have backed up my hard drive using DriveImage and restored it to another hard drive. Everything appears to be on the new drive but it will not boot on the same computer. What am I doing wrong?

did u back up the data or do a bit for bit copy?

normally DI does an excellent job when used for cloning drives.

we are not by chance talking about major changes with your pc in addition to the harddrive or are we?

This was a test or trial run before I actually needed it. I did the DI backup which seemed to include everything. All I did to the computer was to replace my ogiginal drive with the backup drive. I went into the bios to be sure it was reconized as the master.

connect the drive in as an extra(on another cable/controller)

rigthclick on my computer/manage/disk management

rightclick on the problem drive and set active if it's not

Thanks Chewy, problem drive was not active, checked active and tried again. It started to boot, but hung up on the second Windows XP screen. I decided to do the backup again. this time it was a drive to drive copy with the raw mode checked. I set the backup drive as secondary master, the last time it was primary slave. Does any of this make a difference? Also I reformated the backup drive first. I will report back when backup is finished.

I would think raw mode was the problem(not being checked) and I don't think I would ever make an image with drives on the same cable, it would take too long and be prone to errors.

Second backup did the samething, hung up on the WinXP screen. I am trying to get a bootable backup I can depend on, any suggestions?

Yes Chewy, the backup on separate cables was much faster. but I still apparently got errors.

is it a new HD? right? didnt it come with a software disk try using that one to a bit for bit copy, or try Acronis Disk Director, which i always use, u can try it for free, if u got a mchine up and running.
