    HD/play/burn

Hi folks. Can anyone tell me if fairly new dvd players/burners in pc will read/play/burn HD discs. Have got 2 LG multi's.
Not sure if I am in right section but here it is. Thanks.

There are already some available, that supports dual formats (reading both Blu-ray and HD DVD, plus DVD writing as well), for example:

But the drive is only one of the things you'll need to achieve perfect HD playback. A fast CPU (or if possible, GPU-assisted decoding with a good graphics card), as well as a HDCP compatible graphics card and monitor. This guide lists the requirements for PC HD playback:

Use this guide to see if your computer is high definition DVD (HD DVD/Blu-ray) ready

Might have to just skip HD playback for the current computer and get it on the next computer you buy, unless you can upgrade to the following specs:

                  * Core 2 Duo processor, eg. 6750 (still need a fast CPU for VC-1 decoding, since it's not accelerated by Nvidia GPUs)
                  * GeForce 8600 GTS or GeForce 8800 GT or ATI Radeon HD 2600
                  * Monitor with HDCP compatible DVI (most of the new ones these days) or HDMI
                  * HD drive - get a dual format one would be best, since it allows you to play everything. Don't bother with BD/HD burning for now, because blanks are far too expensive (eg. this drive is ok: http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=26553)
