    backing up music files

can anyone offer me advice :

i have approx 7GB of music stored on my pc. i want to format my drive, but i dont want to have to re-install all the music again.
a friend said i could store the music files on two dvd`s (4.7 gb each), & then put them back on my pc when i have done with the format.
can i do this & if so, has anyone got the time to give me an idiot proof giude ?
it would be a massive help if anyone could help.
    cheers, banksy.

You can do this any way you like really. I just use a free program like DeepBurner, create data CD/DVD, add folder containing music and burn.

The easiest and cheapest would probably be to use Imgburn "build mode".
In the Help in the Imgburn program there's a menu item for "visit support
forum" and there you will find guides how to use build mode. I recommend
you select all 3 available file systems. It doesn't cost you anything and
you should be able to read the burned DVDs in any version of Windows
        or Linux.

The easiest way would be if you have an external hard drive to copy the files over. Do you have Nero?

            cheers, everyone for your interest.
i used nero to back up onto 2 dvd`s. (i didn`t realise it was a data dvd i needed to create) - a lot easier than i imagined.
p.s. - no, i dont have an external hard drive or memory stick at the moment.

make sure you burn them as DATA not a music CD this will protect the file integrity of your music

if you make a music cd nero is going to convert them to a wav file format and then you have to rip the files which is going to convert them again
