    Can you autorun registry stuff?

    Hi,

I am getting a 80GB Zune for Christmas (I picked it out and everything, I just don't get to open it until Christmas) so I was doing some research on it.

According to the stuff I've seen, you can drag and drop media to the Zune software, but not directly to the hardware. However, according to this site you can change some registry values and allow the Zune to be used as a portable hard drive.

That would work fine for MY computer, but what about a friend's? Or school? I need some way to make it automatically show as a hard drive. Say I made a .reg file that contained the registry files that site mentions. Could I make an autorun.inf and have it run that? Or would it not work?

I'm open to any comments about making the Zune into a portable hard drive, since as I said, I can't actually use it until Christmas.

If you would be doing that to a school computer would be treading on thin ice. Not recommended to do to a school computer.

      Forget that scenario then.

      Let's say I'm doing it on a friend's computer

You might be able to make a ".bat" or ".cmd" file with the reg entries, put it on a flash drive or floppy.

If the file ends in .REG then all you have to do is double click it and it will be added (with confirmation).

Yes, but the point is I want it automatic.

And I wonder if the Zune really has to be unplugged for it to work... or if I could use an autorun.inf (And do Zunes even support autorun.inf? My flash drive does, but maybe mp3 players don't)

Zune will upload automatic if you have the new files in the folders that Zune had been upload from

What's that mean? As far as I know, you can only drag and drop files to the Zune software... and not to the hardware itself. As usually, the Zune doesn't show up in My Computer.

I hook up zune to my comp the first time you will have to choose which folders you want zune to take from ( you can add and subtract them later, folders) next time you hook your zune to that computer it will upload the new files to it if they are in the right format.

I dont think I ever drag or drop any files at all ( I dont know if I can either, I never try)

I hate auto-synching though... as my music is in My Music but I don't want every song in My Music on the Zune.

Last I checked, I had about 60GB of music. But what about videos?

And let's put it this way... just that I own a CD doesn't mean I want to listen to it! I keep the mp3s around since I have sisters with a varied taste in music, but I don't want every song that I have on my Zune. I'd rather be able to drag and drop.

But this is getting off-topic. Can .reg files be autorun? And if so, how do you even make a .reg file?
