I installed OS from a disc.I dl'd a pdf of my motherboard and have been looking through it but,to be totally honest it's like reading hyroglyphics.I'm trying, when I installed the BenQ last night and booted up it couldn't even read my Lite-On that's installed fine.It changed the name of my Lite On to something that looked like this
D^36"9-...... about 20 characters that are total jumble. As soon as I unplug the BQ and reboot it's fine then I thought maybe having it on cable select was problem. So tonightr I will try to set master/slaveand I'll read pg84-85 I'm at work now oh how this place interferes with my affairs.HAHA

don't mind me, I give all first timers a razzing, I sweated a lot of blood learning this stuff and every time i think I start to understand it, they come along and change everything

you have 2 ide controllers, leave bios at default/auto

leave your burners standalone masters at the end of new cables

remember blue connector(long end of cable) goes to the mobo

A friend keeps messing that up and then swearing it doesn't matter.

now if you need to fix your ram we need to set it manually

Ok here is what I have at the moment,on sata1 header my 500gb wd caviar drive then on primary Ide (I do know the blue end goes to mobo),I have a brand new Asus ide cable that came with mobo I have my Lite-On LH201AH.On secondary ide a seagate barracuda 300gb and the brand new cable just out of the box last night that it came with,I've had the drive about 2 months and never used the cable that came
with it because I have a new one in my P4.I am trying to hook up the BENQ on the primary ide with the lite on(I know what you are going to say need there own cables)as soon as I buy a sata dvd drive the Lite on is coming out.

there's nothing wrong with them sharing a cable as long as you don't use them at the same time

just set master and slave, master goes on the end

all those sata connections and a pata hard drive, what a waste

finding 2 pata controllers that work on a new mobo is rare today

some of the new dells are shipping with none and not even a pata power connector

I know it's a waste but,it's brand new and with the $ this thing set me back,I don't envision getting another sata hdd for a while ,this was part of my dilemna finding a new mobo and power supply and I found this 10 months ago (mobo) and it took me this long to afford it.The ide hdd has all dvd back ups so I will only use that when burning I know it's not ideal but,I'm getting there my next purchase is the sata burner, then I'll look to hdd and better vid card.Another problem I'm having with Vista is my sata/raid controller card,it won't install even with original software /drivers for controller

Maybe drivers is wrong choice of words ,I have this sata card and need it specific chipset.Yes my vista is on the sata drive

I don't believe it's going to work with vista I meant that it won't install with the disc that came with it that has the drivers for the card on it.I'm not going to use it for hardware ,it's for my X-Box 360

personally i like evga and xfx although they're all pretty much the same

I never buy the OC'd versions as the price to performance ratio aint worht it for me

everything I've read so far points to the 8800GT 512 versions as the best for the money
