My son had a problem with invalid key. He called Microsoft and gave them his key information and they gave him a new key.

if you are trying to reinstall the old computer from "YOUR" windows cd and try to enter the KEY from the sticker it will not work

in order to install (reinstall or etc) using a key from a sticker you must have an OEM XP disk

back a few years ago when I slipstreamed sp1 into my xp cab files I found out each different xp cd is named differently, I named mine wrong and had to redo it

you have retail home and pro, then oem versions, not to mention upgrade disks

each has their own differnet set of keys

And do not forget that some builders (HP etc) use different "Part Numbers" for every "CD /DVD" build they release (2nd part of the "part number" benied the product key) 633, 640 etc etc.

Your "Part number" is linked to your CD/DVD build.
You can install this build, with an "product key" that belongs to that build.

FOLLOWING IS ILLEGAL, AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACTIVATE YOUR WINDOWS.

Try installing windows with an "free available" (google) ILLEGAL key from internet. After the installation, don't activate your OS, because it will not work !!

THIS IS ILLEGAL, AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACTIVATE YOUR WINDOWS.

After the installation, change your product key with Microsoft's product number changer. (which is legal)

                    or

After the activation, you will have a legal OS.
