    New Intel CPUs - E8200, E8400 and E8500

Any views on these new Intel CPUs? Which is the best value out of these 3, and compared to the old parts? What about the new Phenom 9500 and 9600?

ram to keep with that 1333 is going to be real pricey

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...333+(PC3+10600)

amd has really got to regroup

I like this cpu for 100$, of course you need a killer heatsinkfan since the cpu is unlocked

that saves a lot of grief with matching memory dividers when you raise the FSB

      and ddr2 800 cas 4 is a steal, 60-100$ for 2 gigs

DDR3 memory is a waste of money right now. My thinking would be to combine the E8400 with the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard, which supports both DDR2 and DDR3 - get cheap DDR2 now, and upgrade to DDR3 when (if) it's worth upgrading in the future.

My thinking does not include overclocking, since I'm just trying to find out what would be the best for the average consumer. I need to write a blog entry about these new CPUs.

I would choose the AMD Phenom over the Intel chips. Micro center had the Phenom on sale.

yeah i hear you DDR3 is a big waste of money for barely any difference going to be awhile before we see the benefits of DDR3 prolly about the same time AMD switches over to it.

What sucks fer me is I just found out that my mobo wont support a Phenom

I hear ya chewy i wish amd would be on top again, but lets face their cpus still rock and are more then plenty fast enough the speed difference is hard to notice between the two but im not counting AMD out yet the Phenom still has a nice design just wish that AMD had the same manufacturing capabilities as intel then we'd see the real king

personally im waiting to see the new chipsets from nvidia for the phenom as I've always had good luck using an nvidia chipset and I have had alot better luck with nvidia graphics cards over ati's

would love to have a new phenom with an nvidia chipset running dual 8800GTs

the phenom isn't/wasn't ready for release yet, it's almost there, but having 4 cores on one die is the way to go and a step ahead of intel

the next step will be when they take an ati gpu core and put with 3 cpu cores

of course they are planning on going for a total of eight

and at least they have a better naming system

intel is almost as bad as nvidia with the names

hmmm lets call our new 8800GTS when we still have 8800GTS's out there, im like huh WTF

the combo CPU with a GPU is going to be just for low-end systems

I mean look at the size of the current ATI chips try to squeeze that into a CPU and it'll be like a Pent II CPU in terms of sheer size

for us that what a solid GPU in our system we'll still be looking at stand alone GPUs

but the CPU/GPU combo chip might be a nice answer for laptops where 90% of the market is stuck with lame obsolete graphics capabilities

like my brand new ibm thinkpad x61 with the phenominal intel craptaculiar graphics

on a side note just saw a nice article on the new dual gpu ati card 3870 X2

The Phenom 9500 costs $10 more than the E8400 here. Only the E8200 can be had for $USD 199.

only problem is that amd hasnt released the newer phenoms with the B3 stepping yet, which is the big thing along with more mobo choices that i am waiting for

Has there been a price rise for the 8400/8500 from Intel? Prices have gone up from $264 to $355. Is there a shortage problem or something?
