Mysterious fatal PS3 error shows up online

A mysterious Playstation 3 error has reportedly caused problems for some users during faulty firmware installations, but Sony has said it isn't "aware of this issue."
A handful of PS3 owners have reported receiving the error code 80010514, reports Game Revolver. The problem is apparently linked to a contamination in the hard drive and/or a faulty firmware installation.

Saw this story on MAXCONSOLE. While updating to 2.20, the power went out in our area. It was a very frightful wait for the power to go back on (some 4 hours later), only to discover no damage was done ... luckily, the console had just finished the first stage of the firmware update (the download + restart ... it was sitting there waiting for me to continue the update), and wasn't in the middle of actually updating the firmware. Phew ...

Also on MAXCONSOLE, saw this story as well in regards to the same error code:

That's why I am sort of glad I don't have DSL just yet.I download the firmware on my PC and then transfer it to the PS3 with my flash drive. If I ever do get DSL, I will probably continue with the flash drive method. To solve potential power outage problem, maybe I will invest in a UPS if it can help prevent this.I would hate to cough up $150
