Windows Defender

Every time I boot up my Windows Defender icon by the clock always has a red cross and when I double click on it I get this going on for hours on end.



I don't know if it's scanning my hard drives or if it can't delete the infection. I'm thinking of uninstalling Windows Defender and re-installing it and hoping it will work properly if it isn't now. Does anyone know what is happening?
