cd, too small for a dvd

btw one of the moderators over at cdfreaks couldn't get nlite to work

might have been the net issue for all I know

just goes to show you we all have problems, I sure did the first few times I used it

if you use build mode you will make a data cd and that won't boot

just use burn/write mode and leave the driving to imgburn

    test by booting your computer

stop when it offers to install or repair tho

I noticed sometimes when you download a proggie from the net that it'll sometimes not work right or just won't download. Google still needs work on this as their programmer still hasn't integrated the software needed for certain apps. That's where IE comes in. I had to go to IE to update the firmware on my burners.

Why the run time error though? Didn't seem to affect the outcome. I'll check it out like you said w/the bootable and post back.

I don't know what you meant by boot but I had it in my burner, opened it up and it came up w/the screen asking me if I wanted to install. I guess it worked.

set your computer to boot first to the optical drive and then see if it boots and starts to load into memory, don't worry it won't change anything without asking you 2 or 3 times

these will tell you what happens in a generic repair and install

try to find a broken xp computer to fix

Hi Chewy. it booted up and ran the whole disc. I just pressed f3 to exit. it came out sweet. could I uninstall my mce 2005 and replace it w/this if I wanted to, or is there something in the mobo or w/e that will not support it?

I got you. I'll find out thru the above links what can be done.

now doc, you have already paid for 2 liscenses, let's keep it simple

now with another hard drive you could do a trial run

you should always research what drivers you need from the web sites first

Ok, then by which drivers I'll need you mean for the other hard drive. ie: If I was to get the seagate now for the build would it work on both the system I have now and w/the amd processor on its way? If so, then I could hook up the seagate on my xtra sata connection here and do the trial run w/the drivers necessary for the hd. If not then it'll have to wait until I put the build together. I would need the drivers for everything when that time comes as everything would be new/different.

You know I'm curious as to how much I would be able to chuck from the oem xp cd I just made w/nlite. It does everything for you, and it'll even warn you if you're trying to eliminate something you really need or would later. That is the main incentive in using nlite right?

there's little use in removing much from xp installer, the drivers don't really take up much room and every now and then you might remove one that you need

the main benefit of a disk like this is instead of loading xpsp2 and then applying 90+ patches to it or an iffy large sp3 upgrade you can do it all in one install

later if you mess up you can run it as a repair disk witout wiping out previous service packs and updates

each newer motherboard/video take extra drivers that xp doesn't have, you might buy a new mobo with cd and the drivers are out of date on the cd and new ones might be released for sp3

                    always research

You know I have it exactly like you suggested. The new bootable has everything +sp3. I didn't load the hotfixes or the drivers etc.. I have in my pc. That was the idea right? When the time comes to put it into my build am I going to have to load all the hotfixes and anything else needed and create another bootable image?

sp3 is so new after you validate there will be very little to update

btw the plan from microsoft is to withdraw all support for xp unless you have sp3 installed

Chewy i know I could make as many copies of the new bootable but I can't use it in different computers because of the eula and w/e code correct? That's where it can be used on other's pcs as a repair disc? There's always a way around the rules but if I wanted to can I use it in other pcs of mine in the future?

Btw the amd should be here tomorrow so slowly we'll put this baby together. 1 thing I won't do is use my real name for My documents. I tried changing it, on my dell hell but it wouldn't let me saying it was part of the os. I guess the only way to change it would be a clean install?

that disk will run as a repair disk on any xp home oem computer

only use your numbers on the one you will build

I have redone several older broken OS dell, HP, compaq, toshiba computers with my generic home oem disk

                            I use their numbers

Ok. I read up on all 3 of these. I remember way back when you guys suggested not to solely go by newegg's reviews. Everyone has a bone to pick w/something. Both memory deals are good. I have crucial in this dell hell from when we got it. Still good. 1 reviewer feels the corsair are better suited for the asus mobo. 1 ? even though the mobo's several mos. old does that play into any future issues regarding support etc... Also I see it's hd ready for audio and no problem w/hd video w/a good card. I'm positive you suggested it w/hd in mind later. From what I've read here in the forum in several posts most of the fellas and you wait till a drop in price for certain hardware anyway so being that yous have more experience I'll trust the process. remember we need keep in mind for the hd/blu-ray burners. You know that's coming last 4 sure. I'm not dropping g-money on burners that for the most part haven't passed the test of time. The finger's on the trigger. let me know what you feel about the sticks. Thnx.

                                Btw the amd processor's here.
