I'll get to it. I'll just do a clean install and put the 250 in sata 1. 500 ok in sata 2? Read the manual. they focus on raid configurations and warn about ide hd configurations both of which don't apply to me. I'll check bios b4 anything make sure the sata settings are correct.

This is a practise makes perfect and if you don't succed try try again field

A few years back asus brought out some new state of the art deluxe mobo's and I had to set one for an associate, he gave up quickly after seeing the manual and the bios, I studied for a couple of hours and then tried to load windows, it crashed early. I found some weird setting I had wrong and finally got a good load. Feeling real stupid I posted about it in a forum, a more advanced member laughed and said it took him three tries to get a good load. I don't feel so bad after that.

Chewy I got it. I did a clean install. deleted all the existing partitions. made a new 1 w/the 250 and loade windows in the 50gb part. I left the 500gb alone until I got to my pc and then I gave it a name and an address. did the same w/the extended 200gb w/the logical and formated both. Everything good so far. I'll post later w/the screenshots of my pc/bios to finish up and adjust any tweaks which I know there will be some. Thnx. Google is definitely our friend.

Reading the manual on mobo. Lots of xtra goodies like that quiet/cool feature? Aside from this and the AI Gear feature rest pretty much no-brainers. After screen shots better to manually fine tune cpu/memory voltage and fsb, pci express frequencies?

Leave cool and quiet disabled, same for any auto overclocking

For starters leave the cpu voltage at default/auto.

You will need coretemp, hwmonitor and cpuid for the tweaks of safe overclocking

We need to check the memory settings out and make sure bios is running it at stock to match the spd tables

Once the memory is verified then we can start to raise the cpu multiplier and monitor the
              heat under load

We shouldn't have to bother with fsb or pciexpress

That's why that version of the blackedition stays sold out, I am anxious to see what it will do and how well you got the HSF mounted, I had a friend with an old stock HP and a good agp vid card, his amd3000 socket A was crashing and running into the 60C with a large room fan pointed into the case

I took off the old hsf, crappy adhesive thermal interface, used Cu based paste and remounted a new amd oem fan I had, his temps dropped 10-15C, he's waiting on a new power supply tho, durn gamers on a budget

hold down the alt and then prntscrn

let's try to get the memory to run at specs

first you have to set the mem voltage to 2.2 volts

                  It's way underclocked right now

Ok. Here's better shots. To set voltage I'd have to go to ddr2 voltage control? or use the precision tweaker which I didn't see in bios? maybe have to put in the precision tweaker from support cd?

Just set it up as high as it will go up to 2.2 volts, advertised adjustable but manual says only 1.95

I went into ddr2 voltage and set it to 1.95. here's the screen shots. That precision tweaker option might have to b put in thru the support cd?

the memory tab is the one we need to watch

you need to come up with a practical benchmark

something like a short video conversion

say a 22 min avi using dvdflick and setting file size to 1/6 the size of a finished dvd

run it as a baseline before you start changing bios to increase performance

Here it goes. I haven't done any work w/avi video conversion. I could learn it. If there's something else more common like regular digital video maybe that'll do for now? If not then? Btw the support cd just enhances bios and some other stuff through an asus interface. Looks pretty cool. Guess it would be integrated into windows and I wouldn't have to restart and go into bios every time we tweak something. Xtra bells n whistles....

Would a regular back-up of some personal video work do? it'll take about the same amount of time if I burn it at 4x w/imgburn.

Video compression or conversion are both cpu and memory intensive

digital, digest, dvd, divx, dvdr, dvd+r, dvd-r, rip, copy, ripping, convert, backup, back, up, shrink, xvid, software, download, news, guide, article

1:13 ~50fps with dvdflick for the video conversion
