how often you restart your Computer

i restart atleast once in a week or so... or if update to OS or software requires a restart.

last time my pc was shutdown was when i was away for vacations...

I only restart when I need to.

But that is usually about once a week since it seems to crash for whatever reason that often... I keep it on 24/7 otherwise since I run a web server off it

need more options. I am from the "old school", I guess. I only have my pc powered up when I need to use it, so with my work schedule, I actually turn my pc on/off about 3 times a day.

I know a lot of you won't go along with that practice...

I turn mine off every night when I go to bed.

@ katz, you ever use hibernate mode? It uses the same energy as your computer does when it is off (about 2.3w) unless you unplug it.

No...In the "old" days, hibernate mode never seemed to work properly, so I gave up trying to use it. Seemed like windows would rather stay in bed than wake up after a hibernation period.

Plus, I've been doing it this way, on/off a few times a day since I first had pc's back in about 96, I guess, and I have never had any problems like they all say will happen... such as, premature wear/failure, etc.

My way is workin' for me, so I doubt that I will change!

I don't blame ya, and you don't have to worry about the cold boots wearing out the puter like the old days either.

I do the same thing, I turn it on as soon as I get home and turn it off when I go to bed. If I'm at home for a few days I turn it on when I get up, and off when I go to bed. So mine is on and off everyday.

I've done this every since I have had computers, all the way back to when they said never to do it because it was "bad" for them and have never seen any ill effects from it. I used to turn my old dos computer on just to play Leisure Suit Larry and back off when I would die of some venereal disease or something.

I turn off mine everyday at night when done and restart when I need it ... if I don't turn it off because I am running a long video application then at the least I unplug from internet.

I mainly use my laptop so when I am done using the laptop I turn it off.
