Windows won't let me transfer files to disc

I've been trying to move some files-mostly pictures, off the hdd to either cds or dvds. But for some odd reason, I haven't been able to. Windows software that controls the burning keeps saying it encountered an error and can't. I can burn dvds, with no problem, so it's not the burner, or discs (this time). I do remember seeing while checking the Services tab under 'msconfig', that there was something called IMAPI CD Burning, a Microsoft program, that while checked, was listed as having been Stopped off to the other side of the checkmark column. Could this be what's blocking the file transfer to discs? And if so, How do I enable it? I see no way of turning it on, and I'm sure I never turned it off in the first place.

    Thank you.

Drag-n-drop burning is a bad idea. Use Imgburn in build mode to burn your folders to disc.

You can do CD's in XP, but not DVD's unless you use an app like Nero.

You lock the door, throw away

      and it's not me.

Yep. Create a folder if you don't already have one and put the piccy's you want in it, then use build mode with Imgburn to burn the data. Easy peasy.

Don't know if you'll run into this with pictures but when I burn backups of
source code trees(thousands of little text files mostly) the burn proof can kick in very badly because it's trying to create an image on the fly. If you have thousands of files you can avoid burn proof pulling down the Imageburn buffer by first creating an image file on your HD, then burning the image. On the build mode page use the Output menu and select Image File. If you don't run into the burn proof buffer depletion then just burn straight to disc instead.

Could be I get the buffer depletion because there's hundreds of little subfolders in my stuff. If you have all your pics in one folder or a few subfolders it may not be an issue.
