No it will not break it, your computer supply is capable of supplying 450 watts of power. But that does not mean that it is using the full capacity of the power supply. The ups would not last as long due to the fact that the watts being higher means less back up time Get a UPS that has the AVR feature.

Well I had a 250W power supply and it got overloaded when I added a third hard drive... so I'd imagine I use somewhere around 300W now.

But are those UPS units physically capable of supplying more power than they're rated for? Or will it just mess up my computer due to insufficient power?

No they are no capable of supplying more wattage than what they are ratted at. Will not last as long or will let you know that you are trying to pull over the rated output wattage.

The Cyberpower Ups that I am using for the satellite receiver, has the LCD display panel which also shows how much wattage is being used by what is plugged into the UPS.

Once again, I have to recommend the Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD, if nothing else, compare this unit with others in the same category, I really think you will find it to be a good deal.

It is a 1500VA, 900 watt unit with a three year warranty, the LCD readout gives such info as: input voltage, output voltage, wattage, Freq,% of Load of all things hooked to it, and estimated run time.

Doc, does your unit happen to be the one I suggested?

I do have the one with the display but it is the smaller one. But I do have 2 more that do not have the displays. I use to work at best buy. My price was considerable lower. I have it on my satellite receiver. With the recent power outage here it lasted approximately 2 1/2 hrs which is not bad.
