Recent System Recovery-now AVIs without sound

I was forced to perform a system recovery this weekend after being unable to resolve a problem on my own. Now that I've got things back up and running, I've discovered that all my AVIs-old and a couple of new ones I got Sunday, will only play the audio, and no video. All of the icons were Intervideo's WinDVD Player, instead of the normal blueish circles. Remembered that Windows Media player had to be activated, and I did that. Still no video, though the icons switched back to normal. Before recovery, I had WMP10, Divx player and codecs, and Intervideo WDVD player, and Quicktime. Quicktime's been reinstalled. They won't even play on it.

Is there something that I missed? How do I get these to play properly again? I'll bet it's something simple, but after wrestling with this thing all weekend, my brain has turned to oatmeal. Lotsa of lumps, and not pretty to look at. Help me please.

    Thanks.

Thank you...the XVID codec is not installed. Looking into the Crogram Files folder, I see K-Lite Codec folder, and I should reinstall it, and find a suitable codec package with XVID. Unless K-Lite also has it. Don't see it listed in there.

No need to install a codec package. Install only XviD.
