Auslogics Registry Defrag

Hi guys, been awhile since I've come on here but need your expertise.

Has anyone used or is using this product? What is it like? Do we really need it? OKay lots of question, I have the Auslogics Disk Defrag and I found the Registry Defrag and wondered why, do we need it, is it helpful or should it be left alone.

I use a lot of cleaners and this and that and always on the look out for best and better....so this is a new one on me.

I've used it a couple of times on my XP machine and nothing bad happened. Basically it defragments the registry files and reboots your machine. Unless they are badly fragmented I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference. The type of utility you would only run maybe 4 times a year. You can live without it. But with anything that does major messing around with the registry I'd recommend having some kind of system snapshot or install or restore CD/DVD that you know works. If you have disk imaging backup software I'd make a good backup before trying it.

I like Auglogics disk defrag but the Registry defrag I'd say if you're running with only Restore Points as a backup the cost benefit is iffy. On big hard drives I'd say the elevator head sorting and other caching techniques probably insulate you from even feeling a fragmented registry. If your system boots slowly with excessive disk activity then it may be one technique to ameliorate that symptom. But if stuff is working... might not be worth it to fix it.

I'm not familiar with it. I'll use a central tweaking utility like TweakUI if I haven't seen a lot of reports about it hosing things. All in one optimizers, protectors, restorers etc. generally make me nervous. If I do a tweak or change a system setting or registry setting I like to know what it is. If you push a button and 57 registry settings change all at once and something breaks, how do you know what? If the utility has a backup/put stuff back the way it was function, fine... if it works!! But what if the backup/restore is where the bugs are?

For most things I follow the adage, change one thing.. wait and see what happens. Even better, make a note of it in a personal log. Then if stuff acts weird you may be able to read through and remember what you did.


Again, you can take more chances if you have a total system backup, or have a custom setup disc that can lay your system on again in a short time.

The other approach, next time you buy a new PC, don't throw the old one out. Save it as a guinea pig machine.
