    Scanner

Just been trying to connect an old but unused Packerd Bell scanner for a friend. It appears to have USB connection only. Is this possible without seperate power supply ?????

didnt understand what ur asking.... but

1: u need power adapter to power up the scanner
2: usb cable to run frm scanner to pc
3: drivers to install ur hardware.

Thats what I thought. Every (3) scanner I ever had has been like that. This one has absolutely nowhere to plug in power adapter..............Have got software, and 'readme' but no mention of power. Surely they cant hope to run scanner lamp on 5 V from USB !!!!!!. Thanks for reply anyway

Believe it or not a few of the older cheap Mustek scanners were powered off USB.

A friend of mine used to have one that came free with a PC.

It's not exactly recommended though and you'll need to connect it to one of the main ports on the PC rather than through a USB hub.

Perhaps it's time for an upgrade anyway?

You can get a really good one these days for very little money.

                  scanner

Thanks gents. This one did come 'free' with the PC !!!!
It is on a powered USB port, not a hub, and other hub uses are data only, nothing needing power,i.e. PC camera etc.
Will try it again, maybe just needs ages to war the lamp !
If it wont go, it will be out. Thanks again.....

Yeah if it was me I'd tell him to buy a new one.

                      You know it makes sense.
