I'm not sure if they do boot from USB but I'd be surprised it not(for some reason search on that site doesn't want to cooperate right now but they do just about all things bootable there.)

its not just about booting, natively xp dont support installation on external hardisk, this tutorial shows how to alter files to make it....

Afa not booting from external drive, I couldn't even get Vista to put a swap file on my external(well, it put a 0 length file on there... just refused to use it.)
