I tried 2 or 3 times to post some recommendations for you here ... but something it is screwed up ... I keep getting a screen saying that "Needs Moderator Approval" ... I don't know what is that all about ... so now I am shortening my message and trying it again ... if no go then the heck with it ... sorry I am a little ticked ...
I think they used to work better in the old Win9x days because
Windows used to work its way in from the outside of the disk
to the center to try to avoid fragmentation. Then when you
defragged your drive it started back at the end of the used
space again when creating new files. Now with NTFS I don't
know what it does but it seems to overwrite deleted files pretty
quickly. If it's a small file that can fit in that MFT structure or
whatever it is, they probably recycle it right away. Got to
get 'em while they're hot.
I had a really useful one called GetDataBack for FAT/NTFS (Both are separate programs, God knows why...)
It's not free, but I think there's a trial of it. It helped me get 95% of the files back that were on a 2GB SD card when it corrupted itself and showed as being completely blank in Windows. It even found some 1-2 year old pictures on my mom's digital camera card that's been reformatted countless times since then!
