I've been using outlook express 6 for a while now, and just finished googling other e-mail clients to see how they fared and so forth. Different options on many w/add-ons etc... Which one do you guys use and suggest as far as speed, security, etc...? Thnx.
Which e-mail client do you use?

I use Outlook Express too. I hate MS Outlook, not sure why so many people use it... I heard Mozilla Thunderbird was good but since I have no problem with Outlook Express I didn't bother to install it.
I also use Yahoo! Mail as an on-the-go client... recently they added a thing where you can put in pop3/stmp email addresses and it'll check them for you. So I can check my WideOpenWest email using Yahoo! at school, etc.CYA Later:

That's what I said to myself also. No problems w/outlook 6 either. Just want some different feedbacks for a general consensus should I decide to check one out. Aside from yahoo. Not interested in them.SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

I just wanted straightforward email, w/o a lot of bells & whistles. I don't need the fancy stationary, etc. But, I did want something that was considered a bit more secure than Microsoft, so I went with Thunderbird. I have used that pgm. for a couple of years, partly because I used it on Linux too.
It is a breeze to set-up, will check web email accounts at same time, such as gmail, etc. I have mine configured w/ a "chime" that will alert me to new email, that is a nice feature.Comment

I'm leaning towards trying out Thunderbird. Millions of users w/that being an online client. I was wondering whether it's been said to be safe and secure how much more than outlook express being part of your own os? Also is it still a bit buggy? Read a lot on google about that also, but unsure if it was related to certain add-ons. I'm not much into the bells and whistles either, but rather speed. Is it that much faster than outlook express?
I left the IM proggies alone for a while now. I do miss that instant reply. Chatting I guess is different than e-mails. Way too much traffic on those. If anything I was looking at Skype. Would a IM proggie work to receive quick replies say from the forum also? Or are they set up differently? I know you need a genuine e-mail address for here, but do those IM's serve as a pop3? Does Thunderbird work pretty quick in regards to replies and can you chat on it also? Thnx.SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

I used Pegasus Email Client for a long time. After awhile though, it became apparent that html was here to stay in email so I tried out Thunderbird. You can easily back up your thunderbird mail, profile and installed Addons with MozBackup free program. It does the same for Firefox browser too. The combination of the 3 is very good. <<- edit I should'a
said efficacious instead of "is very good" ... geez my vocabulary sucks now!
If you've used Outlook Express then you know how to use Thunderbird.Last edited by MilesAhead; 17 Sep 2008, 09:50 AM.Comment

Hmmm. Outlook Express and Thunderbird so far the consensus. Well don't have to make a decision today. I also like that Outlook Express is preinstalled. Gotta give Billy Boy some props. He tries. lol...SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

One reason a lot of people to Thunderbird although it's similar to OE is that supposedly there's a bunch of security holes in OE. One trouble with stuff that's on every Windows machine, like IE, is that Malware authors know it will be there. It's easier to just attack than to search out what you actually have and then attack it.
For instance I have a little freeware that I run when Windows starts.
All it does is kill IE every time it tries to pop up. A lot of Malware tries
to launch IE then stick a BHO onto it or take you to a nasty site.
This way as soon as it comes up, it's gone down, before it has a chance
to do anything.Comment

Gmail for 2 years and Yahoo from the beginning. I had both Outlook and Thunderbird and didn't like either of them.Comment
