    Region 0

Is it true Region 0 doesn't work in America and Canada? I looked at the back of a cheap DVD in a shop for 99p today and it says it's on Region 0 for some reason when it should be Region 2. It had a message saying "this DVD can be played anywhere in the world except for America and Canada". I thought the whole point of Region 0 was so that a DVD can be played in any country in the world. I live in England and over here we have Region 2. A friend of mine that lives in America wants to watch a home movie of mine and I'd rather send it to her on DVD so that she can watch it on her TV and not through a screen the size of what You Tube provides. As a lot of us know, America and Canada uses Region 1. I was going to send her the DVD on Region 0 and now I wonder if she can play it. How can I either convert Region 0 to Region 1 or Region 2 to Region 1?

    Many thanks.

It could be in PAL format instead of NTSC.

That is why it would not play in North America

I'm pretty sure US/Canadian DVD players can play region 0, because there are actually lots of region 0 DVDs on sale there. Have you checked the problematic disc itself to see if it actually is region 0 (it could be an all regions except region 1 disc, like "2,3,4,5,6" as opposed to an actual "0").
