i swear i saw HP's new 13.3" dv3000 but its been removed or whatever, its not available from hp anymore and its very strange cause its just released.

It sounds like there must be a hardware issue and HP has pulled from the market.

Seems like there's a lot of churning with the HP desktops too. By the time I decide if I want to buy a new model, Best Buy "outlets" it and you can't get it. New models come out with processors with no track record(but gobs of memory) so I'm stuck in wait and see mode. Maybe it will shake out by Christmas shopping season?

I still enjoy building the computers, looking at getting an am2 motherboard for the wife's computer. I have 3200+ am2 socket amd cpu nib. I also like the ddr2 memory prices. I am thinking of getting a msi motherboard for the cpu.

If I could dedicate a room with a great big bench then it might be fun. Right now the space is so cramped that I chuck out perfectly good PCs instead of networking them together. Just don't have the space to stick more than 2 towers, one monitor and one keyboard/mouse.

My bench is not that big either, I usually assemble the towers in the family room while watching TV.

Go for it Miles, you'll be glad you did. I still say you'll get more for your money. Especially if your not in a hurry, you can buy the parts when then there on sale from the egg or anywhere else.

I don't knock it for those who enjoy it. I've done enough things mechanical for one lifetime. I prefer to tinker with software now. For one thing you don't skin your knuckles or get a capacitor discharge.

For me the only time I have capacitor pop, is when I am working on repairing switching power supplies and car stereo amplifiers, which by the way they are very easy to fix. The only time I shin my knuckles is when I am changing the oil in the wife's pickup truck.

I'd only consider doing things mechanical if I had my own shop with the best tools, hydraulic lifts, helpers to do all the grunt work, and a schedule that amounted to "work on stuff if I felt like it." Anything less and I've been there done that.
