    Hypothetical question?

If you had the opportunity to check out Windows7 & you had the operating systems, would you try it as a single OS, Dual Boot or Triple Boot? For example, XP32/Windows7, XP64/Windows7, XP32/XP64/Windows7, etc. Hopefully you know what I mean. Remember strictly hypothetical.

        1. i will use boot manager, install seven on seperate primary partition so no files get added or currupted or...... so i can later just remove the partition and uninstall boot manager and ill be just like when i started.

        1. probably ill install it on my notebook on seperate harddrive im using for such purposes... but im skiping this seven build for now.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

I have so many spare hard drives I would probably do what atifsh suggested to install it on a separate hard drive.

Depending on a Laptop manufacturer (in my case wonderful Gateway) ... where in the world do you guys find all the Drivers for different components when the laptop manufacturer does not keep drivers for let's say XP 32-bit or any other OS!?!?

            Thanks,

            G!

There is a driver site that wonderful people upload drivers to. Or it is called hunt on the manufacturers web site and see if they have something remotely close to the chipset drivers that you need.

i also find that most drivers are same for multi brands/model but are restricted to specific models... example
vostro 1500 doesnt have vista 64 bit drivers on dell, but u will find almost every driver u need to install 64bit vista on vostro by using different models... like there workstations.... ) iv installed 64bit like that on that vostro including drivers for webcam, utilities,

gonwk didn't you take out a service contract w/Gateway? Or do they not offer one? Or did you buy a used laptop? My Dell MCE 2005 e310 will always be supported as long as I have it. At least that's what they told me. It's been true so far as they've given me a new HD and replaced other hw and have always provided drivers for me as well. $150 or so goes a long way some times.

Let me finish learning XP Home B4 I delve into the arena w/the big boys. Windows 7 I heard was nothing but Vista worked over a bit. Let me know if I'm totally wrong or partly correct?

That there is the issue if any. The word beta linked to MS hasn't gone over well at all especially w/Vista. They're the slickest con-men in the business. Figure out our betas. Kill yourself in the mean time. We'll almost totally straighten it out for you , but our new beta version of Windows is out so go ahead and play w/that. Freaking merry go round. I'm going to do some research on some different os and how compatible they are in relation to digital video work. There has to be one that can support most of the proggies we use w/out the hassle of trying to configure the whole pc to work correctly in the first place. It's the old double work. I mean it keeps us on our toes, but for those of us not too quick w/the ins and outs, ie: me, it consumes a lot of time I could be devoting to learning the real bad ass digital proggies that most if not all of you have mastered already. ie: DVD Rebuilder. Just to name one. They're hundreds on the DD home page so go figure.
