@Miles, You already have them stored so that's ok. Doesn't matter if you listen to them or not. I'm looking for storage to do w/e, whether watch them, burn them again and just plain have them stored safely.

@ipaulo, I guess I could do that as well which in fact is how I have it more or less. Just trying to figure out what to do w/the extra 200gb partition that's part of the C Drive. Some of the final files really don't need to move as I process them right there, so if I want to store them in a separate drive I'll have to process them there and leave them there so I won't have to move them later from the 2o0gb partition. Basically I might be having 200gb of empty space more or less.

My 1tb drive comes tomorrow. Weather delay. I'm going to divide my genres in different folders and decide which drive to start w/as I have a 500gb ready to roll also. I barter a lot w/close friends, so I'm looking at about a extra 200 Kung Fu flics to store in addition to my regular and personal collection. The 600 disc case arrives Tuesday hopefully barring any weather delays. So I'll be getting back w/how to file them.

I bet it will be. I'm kind of enjoying the process of building the database. Only thing is now I have to store all these empty jewel cases I'm making!

You could store the cases in cardboard boxes.

If you got the case to put your jazz collection in or w/e what the heck you need those empty jewel cases for now? Recycle? Go Green.

@doc just got the 1tb wd from super. Now I'm going to store all my stuff that I deem worthy of storing. Have the 500gb and now the 1tb. Can you suggest wth to use the 200gb partition connected to my os for? This might sound trivial, but anything I put on that 200gb partition most likely will have to be stored in either of the other 2 drives for safe storage, so double work in copying files from there is kind of redundant. Thnx.

I got it. Got an update to. This wd 1tb is making my pc zip way faster than when I had the seagate 500gb in as a additional hd. Any input on that? Are wd's faster than seagate hd's even w/same rpm's but additional storage? Could it be that I took out the jumpers on the seagates to make them faster as suggested and it didn't? If these wd's are indeed faster no matter what than I'll prolly go w/these in the future.

Yeah most of 'em will end up back in the cartons they came in. Just seems funny that most of the work is dealing with the cases. I was using Casio labels on the edge of standard jewel cases. Seems like those suckers would always fall off, until I'm trying to get them off now!! Almost like glued on!! Jeez!!

One thing nice about this Personal Video Database though is the plugins. For printing out reports, lists it has default setups that you can customize just by changing a script param. Plus it snaps up even on my old Pentium 4 machine, with no hangs. Feels light on resources.

              thanks for the info

Wombler and ipaulo - thanks for the info about the DJ cases. It's much
more fun to go directly to the hanger in question after looking through
the database than trying to stare through stacks of jewel cases only to
find that the movie you want is at the bottom of the stack that's behind
              another stack! Way better!

No problem and I'm glad you found that useful.

It always amazes me what you find out sometimes by asking what initially seems to be a fairly straightforward question.

That's the great thing about the forums I suppose.

Your welcome Miles. I said the same thing when I found these cases and DvdProfiler. Together they make life so much easier. Like I said earlier these are the only way to go for anyone that has a fairly large collection.

How are you liking Personal Video Database program? How's the quality of the images?

I like the program very much. I haven't been using it for graphics. Just to get the movie info. By default it gets the graphics too but I shut that off.

I found out today it was written in Delphi. So far I haven't gotten a single "hang" and it's snappy even on my old Pentium 4 machine. It has a new beta out but I haven't installed it yet. I've been checking out the forum for it and it seems like the developer is responsive to reasonable feature requests. One thing I like is the plugins use a simple macro script so you can alter how the info is output when exporting lists or tables by changing a couple of variables. It comes with a pretty good set of plugins already configured. The only thing kind of ambiguous was how to get the slot number into the list printout. A little trial and error and that mystery was gone. So far it looks like a well thought-out program. From reading the forum the developer seems like he's enjoying the whole thing. I didn't get any "curmudgeon" vibe from the dude.

Well, I guess that's exactly how the forums work. I ask about storage and we end up redoing what we thought was a great fix at the time. I just received my 600 disc case yesterday so hope you guys'll be around for help w/the profiler process whether ipaulo's or Miles'. Now I need a printer though.

Putting it simply, no matter how you slice it computers=$$$. Lol... Great hobby I must admit.

I think this went over my head. Whoosh!!! You mean the application forms/dialogs/skins etc. I guess. Not as flashy as Profiler but the author is incrementally improving things. The new beta has a more configurable UI. I just started to mess with it now.

I suspect what got me the hangs with Profiler is using the Disc in the Drive feature. Any time you have to wait for the optical drive the odds of a hang go way up. Anyway both apps seem perfectly usable to me so it's a preference thing I guess.

Well mainly I meant the quality of the case cover pictures. I use to have the free version of Profiler and the pictures were lousy, then I spent the $30 and saw big difference.

@Miles,I never use the Disc ID thing, I usually just input the bar code, and see what picture looks like. Then I input the dvd title and see if there's a better looking one. If I decide the UPC is the better one then I just click back to add by UPC and enter it.

@dr, have fun peeling those stupid plastic tabs off. LOL

I see what you mean now. In my case I don't download the graphics. Mainly I'm just using the db as a disc locater. In fact an editor with auto line numbering could be used but it is kind of fun to let it download the director and cast etc. I haven't checked out the search features other than by title yet. The only thing a bit annoying is there's a side panel with the list of titles. If you do Plain View you can put in symbols for what to show. If you put %N %T for the ID number and Title the number is not right-aligned. The start of the title varies with the number of digits as you go down the list. People on the forum say there's a Grid option that aligns the list but it's temporarily disabled while new features are being worked. It seems like a solid app so I think I'll be ok with it.
