    Repairing Re-writables

Is there any software that can repair re-writables? I keep having to throw some away because they corrupt for some reason and some just continue spinning when they are not in use where the light is still flashing on the front of my DVD burner. I don't know what corrupts them but when they continue spinning when they are not in use they sometimes crash my PC where I get Not Responding errors and sometimes my taskbar disappears for a moment. I've had this with CD's and DVD's.

    Many thanks.

Only thing that comes to mind is Full Erase or Format using Imgburn. If they are old and/or have seen heavy use they might just be bad.

Also I notice a lot of media seems to be very burner sensitive. I bought some Verbatim DVD+R 16x on sale at a brick & mortar store and got all kinds of errors playing back video when I burned 'em on my HP dual core machine. I just tried them again on my quad core and I haven't seen a problem so far. The burner on the quad core machine doesn't even do 4x even on 4-8x rewritables. Just goes right to 6x on those and 8x on DVD+r. Seems to work better, at least with the media I'm using. No way to really predict it I guess.
