Windows 7 that much faster than xp home?

i noticed a considerable difference in speed from my xp home dual core amd 64 to my new build which has 64 bit 7 w/a amd 3 cpu. now is the reason for the faster speed 7 itself, or 7 w/the amd 3 or both? my hdd in my new build is a 320 GB 16 bit i think. the hdd in my old build is 80 GB 16 bit. i'd like to get some feedback on this just in case i might need to spruce up my old build a bit hdd wise or w/extra ram or even call asus about the mobo itself. i have ddr2 2GB's in the old build, and ddr3 4 gb's in the new build w/of course new mobo as well. thnx.

i haven't tried gauging anything w/cpu-z or core temp etc... i'm going at 7 lil by lil so i won't stress out. since you asked i would presume core temp is compatible w/64 bit correct?

also i was doing some playing around w/the old build and tried updating the bios which resulted in bsod. thnk goodness 4 a cloned drive and resetting the clrtc. zipped right back up. i also decided to overclock the old build through the ocling feature in the bios instead of manually like i had previously. it's at 3% oc. i noticed a lil more zip, but then again not too much traffic today on net.

what should i be looking 4 in core temp? cpu temp alone? does that determine speed? i know xtra ram and cpu does together w/a decent drive.

      btw it's a 8mb 80 gb hdd sata. i thought it was 16 mb.

Core Temp works very well with AMD cpus. More than the temp, it shows the % load of each core. That's why I say it may give you some idea if the 3 core is faster because more cores are being more utilized. Just another indicator.

well ddr3 and extra core , u should get some extra... but ur running ur ddr3 at dual not triple channel, if ur mobo supports tripple pls do so, a lot of boost ull get with tripple channel, atleast at memory bandwidth.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!
