IE7 Crashes & Restarts in Vista

    Hi folks,

    I have Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-Bit and I am running IE7 in 32-bit.

In the last couple of days my Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) crashes and it says it wants to get restarted ...

I can't quite put my finger on the time when this problem started ... if it was after a Special program installation.

Now the only thing that I can recall installing couple days back was the Vista Codec Pack 5.3.6 and the X64 version of it 2.0.5.

Q1: What is casuing this problem?

Q2: How can I fix this problem?

    Thanks,

    G!

Do a system restore and see if that fixes the problem. If not you are hosed!!!!.

My first suggestion would be, if you don't have WinPatrol, download and install it and run it. Right click the tray icon and select Display IE Helpers. Sometimes if you pick up a malware it can be a BHO, or Browser Helper Object. These work with IE. It may be that it's not a deliberate attack. Some legit programs use BHOs. But WinPatrol should show if there are any and if so, what they are.

If those are eliminated as the culprit then you can look further. But it's an easy thing to check without taking any drastic action.

          Hi Miles,

I have WinPatrol ... but since I am so darn Lazy ... I never have read thru the darn User Guide to get Super Familiar with it.

But ... I think I have found what the problem is ... see below chronolgy of troubleshooting ...

My readings and searches pointed me to Adobe Flash nPlayer causing the Crashes for majority of the people ... so I uninstalled "Adobe Flash Player" using their tool .. but that did not fix my problem.

I just happen to get an alarm, out of luck, from Micorsoft saying that my "Comodo Verification Engine" .dll is not working properly and is causing a crash.

So, I uninstalled my "Comodo Verification Engine 2.7.0.24" which I had upgraded yesterday or the day before ... from 2.7.0.22 to 2.7.0.24.

I think that was the problem ... but we'll see ... I will post back in a day or 2 when I try all different web pages to make sure that was the problem.

BTW, heck I have no use for this Comodo VE Add-on which really to me has proved to be USELESS. It does NOT do anything with Malicious or Bad Sites ... except with Knwon Sites like Google and Yahoo and so forth to give you the nice Green color Glow on the edges ... so like I said is useless ... WOT is the ONLY way to go for Browser Protection.

THANKS for your Help as usual!

          G!

I would do a system restore to like 3 days before you started having problems. I finally upgraded the new laptop to IE 8. Got tired of getting upgrade pop ups from yahoo to upgrade to IE 8.
