UncasMS, Good to hear from you again, thanks for the reply, Hope all is well .
A good friend of mine aquired a PC and asked if i knew how to get around the login password, i knew someone here would know,i will try and let you know how he made out. Thanks again
make sure to download and burn one or more of these "boot cds" from different sources (google will guide you with keywords like these: "boot cd erase windows password")
maybe you can better test them on your machine by erasing the present password for your admin account (you can later simply re-use the same password) and see how and if it works
good luck

btw: you will have to be able to boot from a cd on whatever machine you will try this
so maybe one will have to enter the bios and make sure the boot sequence is set to CD/DVD as first boot device or otherwise the pc will always boot into the installed windows version
so make sure to ask your friend if he is able to access the bios - if not and in case the boot sequence is set to hdd as first device you will have a hard time
not being able to enter the bios is never a good basis and no, dont get a new harddrive just because the bios cannot be entered now
normally you can reset the bios to its default settings by using a certain jumper on the mainboard (in most cases this jumper is close to where you find the battery)
refer to the mainboard manual (ask google if you dont have it anymore) but usually you will find a jumper next to the battery - set this jumper for say 15 seconds into the other available postion and then set it back to where it was before
this usually resets a bios back to default values and with defaults one should be able to access the bios itself
btw: WHY is he not able to enter the bios?
we are not dealing with the case that he does not know/press the proper key to enter the bios or do we by chance?
reset the bios ONLY when you are asked for a password to enter the bios and dont have one
if you simply dont find the proper key to enter the bios at startup: keep looking more precisely!
