Here's a thread with some "undocumented" registry settings that you can use to get rid of the Taskbar thumbnail and stuff going transparent with mouse hover in 7.
Note they are "use at your own risk" as the person who posted them just found them by messing around.
I use RocketDock just above the taskbar and all that action when I moved the mouse over the Taskbar was driving me crazy. It's a relief to turn that stuff off.
