Is Win 7 a resource hog?

I have the win7 home edition free upgrade for a Dell Studio 64 bit Vista OS.

I keep reading back/forth that Yes it uses a lot of ram/
No it doesn't use a lot of ram..
I have the Intel dual core with 4 gig ram.

could someone clear this up..
