Confused on CPU Temp in Everest

    Hi,
My brother just had me do a build for him.

Everything looks good, but the mail CPU temp. All the cores are great.

    Any thoughts?

Quad core is a new world to me.

hmmm, 80°C would be too much if they were true - for some reason those 80°C do not match the other cpu temps

i have a quadcore similar to the one you built (oc'ed however) running for some hours now doing video conversion and my temps read with everest 5.30 look like this:

    Motherboard 37 °C (99 °F)
    CPU 54 °C (129 °F)
    1. CPU / 1. Kern 53 °C (127 °F)
    1. CPU / 2. Kern 53 °C (127 °F)
    1. CPU / 3. Kern 53 °C (127 °F)
    1. CPU / 4. Kern 53 °C (127 °F)

maybe you should try another tool like HWMonitor

HWMonitor's temps are similar to what everest reported for me:

Hardware monitor AMD Phenom II X4 945
    Power 0 72.00 W (Processor)
    Temperature 0 52°C (125°F) [0x19E] (Core #0)
    Temperature 1 52°C (125°F) [0x19E] (Core #1)
    Temperature 2 52°C (125°F) [0x19E] (Core #2)
    Temperature 3 52°C (125°F) [0x19E] (Core #3)

So basically go with the individual core temps?

Hardware monitor AMD Phenom II X4 955
      Power 0 113.40 W (Processor)
      Temperature 0 37°C (99°F) [0x12A] (Core #0)
      Temperature 1 37°C (99°F) [0x12A] (Core #1)
      Temperature 2 37°C (99°F) [0x12A] (Core #2)
      Temperature 3 37°C (98°F) [0x129] (Core #3)

      Hardware monitor Radeon HD 5830
      Temperature 0 26°C (78°F) (GPU Core)

        that's the question

normally the cpu temp given by everest should be similar to the individual core temps

try a couple of other diagnostic tools and compare their results to the everest temp
SpeedFan for example only states one cpu temperature

First thing on startup ran these two reports.
I'm beginning to think the 79-80c might be bogus?

          And from Everest:

          Temperatures:
          Motherboard 36 °C (97 °F)
          CPU 78 °C (172 °F)
          CPU #1 / Core #1 40 °C (104 °F)
          CPU #1 / Core #2 40 °C (104 °F)
          CPU #1 / Core #3 40 °C (104 °F)
          CPU #1 / Core #4 40 °C (104 °F)
          Aux 25 °C (77 °F)
          GPU Diode (DispIO) 30 °C (86 °F)
          GPU Diode (MemIO) 34 °C (93 °F)
          GPU Diode (Shader) 30 °C (86 °F)

This is like right after windows has loaded. Which didn't take long.

i very much hope that the 80°C were bogus or otherwise the cpu will soon be dead

let the machine run warm with any kind of cpu stress test (Prime95 for example) and compare different tools and their results

another good tool is: Core Temp

you should stay at around or below 60°C under heavy load or otherwise rethink the system/cpu cooling

              Well the 79-80c unchanged
The other four core listings 54-58 depending on the test.
              Used Prime95 for approx. 45min-hour

BTW. Thanks for all your help.

~ 80°C only show in Everest or did any other tool also report this temperature?

CPU temp is normally measured by means of any sensor so the sensor itself could be to blame because even with no/poor system cooling i would not think 80 to be true

when all other tools show temperatures of ~60°C under heavy load then i personally wouldnt worry too much

make sure that the cpu core temps will not get higher than ~60°C and also try to cool the harddrives as good as possible - an aspect which very often gets ignored

when harddrives run too hot you run the risk of a headcrash/data loss

does the case provide decent airflow with say a larger fan taking air in, cooling the area where harddrives are placed and one or more fans at the back blowing the warm air out?

Thanks for you input. I delivered it to him this afternoon. We will watch it. He lives about 30 miles away.

As far as the case, I think we are good. HERE Is the case that I used.

yes, i do agree that a cooler master should do a good job

i have a RC 690 for one of my machines and added another 3 fans to the 3 that came with the case already.
together with 2 fan control units i must say that air flow and noise level can be handled very good but the HAF seems to be a cooling monster right from the start with its 3x 230 +1x 140 fans.

Yeah. He wanted one that would do WOW and DOD well. He gave me a $ figure of 1500 and it was 1498 with shipping. lol

Your temp is really high. Is the heatsink/fan sitting correctly? Did you put some artic silver or equivelent on the chip first? Is the fan clogged?

                            These are my readings:
                            Attached Files
                            You raise the blade,
                            You make the change,
You rearange me till I'm sane.
You lock the door, throw away
                            the key,
                            There's someone in my head
                            and it's not me.

                              Hi,

Yeah. Did that. It is a new build. Figure one of the sensors are bad for the main one. All 4 cores look great otherwise.

The temp reason is why I started this thread.

                              Thanks for chiming in.
