    usb flash drive speeds.....

recently i started using ubuntu and found usb transfer speeds are way faster then windows, being puzzled why, i got a thought why not set usb option in windows to performance than fast removal, and wow i got same speeds. only problem i have to learn to eject the disk everytime and right now im failing in doing that .

so if u ppl have a habit of ejecting usb, u guys should use performance option for now on .

extra: i managed to use the dell media direct button to boot into ubuntu rather then using boot menu.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

Also handy is the SysInternals sync.exe

I got USB Safely Remove on a giveaway, but sometimes even that won't be able to stop the drive. I hit sync.exe a few times so that I know at least the disk buffers have been flushed. A good idea esp. if you have write caching enabled(which is what the performance setting is basically.)

btw .. on the sig.. now it's "USB 3.0 has come out 4.2 times as fast!!"

edit: one thing I did notice was USB 2.0 drives got a boost in throughput when plugged into my USB 3.0 port. I haven't tried a USB key because it's a pita with the connection on the back of the tower. I wonder if they would show any increase? Maybe not since they are slower than USB 2.0 max but you never know.
