Does An HDMI DVD Recorder Record In HD With Ordinary DVD Discs?

I have a DVD recorder with a hard drive that also has HDMI. Does this mean if I record from an HD channel to my hard drive and dub to an ordinary DVD disc, or if I record an HD channel straight to an ordinary DVD disc, will the recording be HD?

The recording will be in SD, down-converted from HD, when it's transferred to DVD. The recording on the hard-drive should still be HD, assuming the DVD recorder has HD tuners.
