    External Drive for watching movies

Just like when you use take a portable dvd player on vacation to use in the hotel, I would like to put all my movies on an External drive to play on another TV where ever I may be.

Whats the best product for this?

    Thanks in advanced

Portable media players will require an AC adapter normally, but if you have an external drive that is USB powered (or just a USB drive), then it means you'll only need one power plug in order to play movies.

Something like this may be what you need.

Yea after doing some research I'm going to pick up either the WD Live Plus or The Roku3 and use an external drive.

But after further reading the Roku 3 doesn't handle external drives to well?

Not quite sure about the Roku 3's external drive handling abilities, but the Roku range has always struck me as being more about streaming (like Netflix, Hulu Plus) than media playback.

Thank you for your reply I was checking out the Micca Speck so now it's between that or the WD Live+.

Also would you trust a 64g or up flash drive or would an external drive be more reliable?

I don't think there are any serious reliability issues between either, although a flash drive by definition does not have any mechanical parts so they're less likely to fail during transport. Ad obviously external drives offers more storage.
